Water Heater Repair and Installation

No hot water is one of the most disruptive problems a home can have. Plumber On Demand repairs and installs water heaters for homes across Ontario. When a repair still makes sense we will fix it, and when replacement is the better value we will size the new unit for how your household actually uses hot water.
Water heater problems we fix
- No hot water or hot water that runs out too quickly
- Leaking tanks and leaks at fittings, valves or connections
- Rumbling or popping noises caused by sediment build-up
- Rusty or discoloured hot water
- Pilot light, burner and thermostat problems
- Tankless water heater errors, scale build-up and flow issues
Repair or replace?
We will give you an honest answer. A newer water heater with a failed part, such as a thermostat, element, thermocouple or valve, is usually worth repairing. A tank that is leaking from the body, badly corroded or near the end of its expected life is usually better replaced, because repairs on a failing tank tend to be short-lived. We explain the cost of each option so you can decide with the full picture.
Water heater installation sized for your home
The right water heater depends on the size of your household, how many bathrooms you have, and when you use the most hot water. A family that runs showers, laundry and the dishwasher in the morning needs a different setup than a couple in a condo. We help you compare conventional tanks and tankless units, size the equipment properly, and install it with the correct venting, connections and safety valves.
Owned and rental water heaters
Many Ontario homes have a rented water heater. If yours is a rental, check with your rental provider before any repair or replacement, since the agreement may cover service. If you own your unit, or want to switch from renting to owning, we can repair, replace or install it for you.
Keeping your water heater running longer
Flushing a tank to remove sediment, checking the pressure relief valve, and descaling tankless units in hard water areas can all extend the life of your water heater. Ask us about maintenance when we are on site. For other home plumbing work, see our plumbing services page.
Water Heater Repair and Installation FAQs
How long does a water heater last?
A conventional tank water heater often lasts around 8 to 12 years, depending on water quality and maintenance. Tankless units can last longer with regular descaling.
Why is my water heater leaking?
Leaks can come from loose fittings, the pressure relief valve, or the tank itself. Fitting and valve leaks can usually be repaired, while a leak from the tank body usually means replacement.
Is a tankless water heater worth it?
Tankless units provide continuous hot water and take up less space, but they cost more up front and need to be sized properly. We can help you compare tankless and tank options for your home.
Can you repair a rented water heater?
If your water heater is rented, contact your rental provider first, because repairs may be covered by your agreement. We can work on water heaters you own.
